CCSE Member and Honorary Lecturer John O'Donnell talks about his Sigma16 architecture and its use as an educational tool

TITLE: Sigma16
SPEAKER: John O’Donnell
DATE: 18th January 2024
TIME: 15:00-16:00
DESCRIPTION:
Instruction set architecture is the central topic in computer systems. Introductory courses present a specific architecture, with its own machine and assembly language, just as an introductory programming course needs to use a specific programming language. One possibility is to use a commercial product, such as x86. Sigma16 is an alternative: an architecture designed specifically for teaching computer systems. The talk introduces Sigma16, explains its design rationale, and discusses its use in teaching computer systems.
